Trump touted his lead in the Tar Heel State in remarks from the White House early Wednesday.

“We’ve clearly won North Carolina, where we’re up 1.7%, 77,000 votes with only approximately 5% left. They can’t catch us,” he said.

But 200,000 mail-in ballots from North Carolinians still needed to be counted. Election officials have until Nov. 12 to count any ballots post-marked by Election Day. Mail-in ballots tend to favor Biden, prompting media outlets to hold off on declaring Trump the victor despite his lead.

What’s at stake: 15 electoral votes.

2016: North Carolina was considered a must-win for Trump, and he edged out Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in a tight race.

Trump 2,732,120 50.1%

Biden 2,655,383 48.7%

Total votes counted: 95%.

What’s next: Mail ballots postmarked by Election Day will be accepted through Nov. 12.
