Fluttering Feeling in the Chest and Heart

Atrial flutter is the main condition that brings about fluttering in the chest area. Symptoms of this condition include rapid and irregular heartbeats which are commonly known as arrhythmias.

The main danger when a patient experiences fluttering in the chest or when there is atrial flutter is that the heart does not properly pump blood when it is beating rapidly.

When this happens, vital organs of the body like the brain and the heart may not receive the right amounts of oxygen needed from the blood. This can lead to devastating complications such as stroke.

With the right kind of medications, atrial flutter can be managed well and is rarely considered life-threatening. It can come as a paroxysmal atrial flutter which means it can come or go but it can also come as a persistent atrial flutter wherein patients will experience fluttering in the chest area for weeks.
